Happy Birthday Frank Lloyd Wright!
Just wanted to send out a Happy Birthday to famed American architect (as well as interior designer, writer, and educator) Frank Lloyd Wright. Wright was born on June 8th, 1867, and was recognized by the American Institute of Architects as “the greatest American architect of all time” (1991). He believed in designing structures that were in harmony with humanity and its environment, a philosophy that he called organic architecture. He designed many types of buildings, from residential to offices, churches, skyscrapers, hotels, and museums.
Over his lifetime, he designed over 1,000 structures, 532 of which were completed. Wright's concept of organic architecture was best exemplified by a structure called Fallingwater (1935), which has been called the best all-time work of American architecture. It amazes me when I look at Fallingwater, as well as so many of his other designs, just how far ahead of the game Wright was. Check it out below, and please let me know what you think. I will follow up soon with some more of Wright's work as well, and get a bit more in-depth with the concept of organic architecture, which I feel is as relevant today as it ever was.
